How to Make Your Own Non-Toxic Candles

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp Soy Wax

  • 1 Tbsp Beeswax

  • 1 Tbsp Coconut Oil

  • 35 drops of your favorite essential oils (feel free to use 1 or multiple oils, or choose your favorite premade blend from DoTERRA)

  • 1 Wooden Wick

  • 2-3 oz jar or similar container

  • Candle Thermometer

  • Double Boiler or Wax Melting Pot

Instructions

  1. Melt the solids (soy wax, beeswax, and solid coconut oil) in a double boiler or a wax melting pot.

  2. When the mixture has fully melted, remove from the heat.

  3. Check the temperature of the wax with the candle thermometer, and when it reaches between 180° F and 185° F, stir essential oils into the wax gently but continuously for 30 seconds. If you are making a larger batch, you may need to increase stirring to 1 - 2 minutes.

(NOTE: Between 180° F and 185° F is ideal for the wax and essential oil to bind, which results in a stronger scent and a safer burn.

  4. Dip the bottom of the wooden wick into the melted wax and use this to stick the wick to the bottom of the container.

  5. Pour the wax into the container.

  6. Add your favorite herbs or flower petals to the top for decoration (optional).

  7. Allow the candle to cool completely. Trim the wick to ¼” height above the wax.

Enjoy your new non-toxic candle!
